The Glorious Hole was conceived in 2017 when a new friend of mine was telling me about how big his penis is. Naturally, I started to think about ways in which I could show his phallus off. “Let’s make a shrine, a Glorious Hole!” I said. The first Glorious Hole was exhibited in 2018, where a live model stood behind a wall, covered in 350 pounds of green grapes, for three hours.
I have been showing penises in my photography for many years, I find myself drawn towards them. In America, we are great at selling sex, yet we have so much fear, shame, and double-standards surrounding it. Through my work, I seek to reclaim the male form. Just because a penis is out in the open, doesn’t mean anyone is threatened, and it doesn’t necessarily mean anything sexual is happening.
The Glorious Hole allows viewers a chance to see a penis in real life, in the flesh, with no artifice, pretense, expectation, etc. It is a safe space, in which we can collectively unravel the strange, Western conditioning that most of us have inherited or learned.
Unlike a glory hole, which would typically be used for sexual endeavors, the Glorious Hole is meant to be just that, glorious, a spectacle to feast the eyes upon.
I hope you will join me for the next installation of the Glorious Hole. Thank you.
